Public Policy (PUP)

This course will serve as an overview to politics and policymaking. A variety of policy issues will be explored as collective action dilemmas that require some combination of norms and formal institutions for resolution. We will consider the historical development of the politics surrounding issues in the U.S., highlighting the role that both political actors and institutional rules traditionally play in the development of policymaking. We will also consider various aspects of the policy process including agenda setting, policy selection and decision making, and implementation.

Public Policy Internship is an immersive experience that gives the student a practical experience of crafting, advocating, and/or negotiating a legislative body of work. Open to all students with sophomore academic standing and above. Requires approval of the program coordinator of the minor or the department chair.
