Chemistry (B.A.)

Many occupations require a moderate training in chemistry combined with training in one or more other areas. Accordingly, the Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry is intended for those students desiring a less specialized background in chemistry compared to the Bachelor of Science degree. The program is extremely flexible with fewer required courses in chemistry and mathematics, offering a wider scope of elective courses giving students the freedom to tailor a program to suite their individual needs. For example, students who desire chemistry as a major in programs of pre-engineering, pre-medicine, pre-dentistry, pre-veterinary, or pre-law may elect this program. Students interested in teaching chemistry in high school normally complete a BA degree in chemistry. Other suitable career pathways include sales or technical service, technical editors, writers, or secretaries, or technical librarians, chemical patent lawyers, or forensic scientists.

Chemistry (B.A.) majors complete a minimum of 120 credits to earn a bachelor’s degree: 49-51 credits of core courses, 22-25 elective credits, and 46-47 credits in their major.
