HLC518: Appraisal

This class explores the theoretical basis for assessment and counseling techniques, including historical foundations and perspectives; legal and ethical, and diversity issues; holistic concepts such as cultural and spiritual belief systems; validity and reliability, psychometric statistics; how tests are constructed and how they are used to assess personality, behaviors, types of intelligence, aptitudes, achievement and career choices.  Students learn how to choose and implement appropriate assessments for individuals, couples and families.  This course will also address crisis intervention and how to use assessments to evaluate risk and implement clinical skills and resources.  Through writing, class discussions, and projects, students will demonstrate how to integrate clinical and holistic concepts when utilizing assessments in a variety of settings.
